Welcome to a new "Yes, It's a Holiday" Collaboration with my friends Deb and Lori on Instagram. Today, July 30th, we are celebrating Paperback Book Day. According to National Today, in 1935, Allen Lane, owner of Penguin Publishing, was on the verge of going bankrupt, and he was looking for any idea to save his company. One day, while on a train with Agatha Christie and her husband, they talked about the low quality of paperbacks at the time. He wanted higher quality paperbacks like Agatha's books, which Penguin was already publishing, but in hardcover. He then got the idea to start offering higher quality books in paperback, and on July 20, 1935, they published Ariel by André Maurois.
