Welcome to a new "Yes, It's a Holiday" Collaboration with my friends Deb and Lori on Instagram.  Today, July 30th, we are celebrating Paperback Book Day.  

According to National Today, in 1935, Allen Lane, owner of Penguin Publishing, was on the verge of going bankrupt, and he was looking for any idea to save his company.  One day, while on a train with Agatha Christie and her husband, they talked about the low quality of paperbacks at the time.  He wanted higher quality paperbacks like Agatha's books, which Penguin was already publishing, but in hardcover.  He then got the idea to start offering higher quality books in paperback, and on July 20, 1935, they published Ariel by André Maurois.  It was one of ten titles released on that day, and it started the "Penguin paperback revolution".

To help celebrate, I made today's card using the I Like Books, Girl digital stamp set from Angie Blom Digital Designs.   

  • I made a top-folding A2 card using white cardstock and ahdered a piece of decorative paper to the front of the card. 
  • Using Pages, the graphic design program on my MAC, I set up a template for an A2 size card, imported the stack of books image from the kit, duplicating the image many times until I had almost covered the entire piece.  Then I added the small cup of coffee to the image.
  • I printed the image, colored all the books using Ultra Fine-Tip BIC Intensity markers, die-cut it using a 4" x 5.25" stitched rectangle die, adhered a piece of fun foam to the back, and then to the card front.  
  • Lastly, I printed one of the sentiments, layered it on a piece of the same decorative paper, and adhered it to the card front using fun foam.

BLOG CANDY STENCILS!!! BLOG CANDY STENCILS!!!!!

**Blog Candy Update!!  -  I have a few more items to my Blog Candy -  A 6x6 StencilGirl Stencil called  Bird In Window by Pam Carriker, a box of Brasilian chocolates, a Brasilian Scrapbooking magazine called Guia do Scrapbooking, which means Guide to Scrapbooking.  It's in portuguese but you can get great ideas with the pictures and layouts they give.   And I have added a 6" x 6" Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate!!!  --------------------------------------------- Hello everyone!  My first Blog Candy post!!  Long story short - in November, when StencilGirl had their big Black Friday sale, I placed an order.  Due to a glitch in their system (but in our favor) the same order was shipped to me - twice.  Since I did not pay for one of the orders, I emailed John at StencilGirl and he told me to keep them and offer them up as blog candy at a later date.  Hence....this BLOG CANDY post!!  All you have to do i...

Do You "STENDOODLE"?

A Bunch of Stendoodled Pieces I Made Have you ever gotten an idea and thought that it was going to be the next amazing thing in the paper crafting world?  The one no one else has ever thought of?  Well this happened on my recent trip back home to NYC.  I was not able to bring a lot of art materials home with me but I was able to squeeze into my luggage my tombow markers, some permanent markers, a bunch of stencils, and a Zentangle book.  I have always loved the look of Zentangling and I was determined to finish a full project by the end of this trip.   One night I traced the outline of the Blazonry stencil on some watercolor paper and then sat - for hours - trying to make many of the Zentangle designs in the book.  It did not look great.  It didn't even really look good.  I realized that this Zentangling was not as easy as it looked and that it probably takes a lot more practice than I was willing to give it on this trip.    ...
