Yes, It's a Holiday - World Tourism Day

Hello everyone and welcome to a new Yes, It's A Holiday blog collaboration that I do with my friends Debra and Lori over on our Instagram pages.  But, at times, I also do a step-by-step here on my blog.

Today we are celebrating World Tourism Day.  As National Today explains, World Tourism Day helps raise awareness of the need for accessible tourism all over the planet and that today's holiday is the result of the work done by the UN's specialized agency, the World Tourism Organization (WTO).  I LOVE to travel but, sadly, I have not left the country since Oct. 2019 due to ongoing issues globally.  There are still so many places I want to visit and photograph.

Anyway....

I was trying to think of a fun idea for today's holiday, and all I kept thinking about were those fun old-time/vintage-type luggage labels.   I jumped on Etsy, did a search, and found this fun set of vintage-type Junk Journal Travel Ephemera from Polka Art Studio, which I bought.  Then I printed the 3 sheets of labels on white cardstock.

Right away I saw labels from Brazil, NYC, Rio...and other fun countries/cities, so I fussy cut them all.  I figure, that whatever I don't use, I can use for another project.

For my card base...I made an A2 card base of white cardstock.  Then I pulled out "The Maps, Text & Ledgers Stack" from DCWV, pulled out a map design, and adhered it to the card front.

Next, I decided on which labels to use and I arranged and adhered them to a piece of white cardstock.  Then I used my 3.75" x 5" stitched rectangle die to cut it out. I left the center open because I will use another label there.

I adhered this piece to a piece of black cardstock, trimmed the edges leaving a small border, and then I adhered it to the card front.

Then I took the label that says "Time to Travel", adhered it to a piece of black cardstock, and then I adhered it to the card front.

Done!

Yes, It's A Holiday - Buy A Book Day

Hello everyone and welcome to another "Yes, It's A Holiday" collab that I do with my friends Debra and Lori.  Today we are celebrating International Buy A Book Day.

I love to read and really miss a big box bookstore.  We have a few here but the books are normally expensive so, sadly, I read mostly on my iPad.

According to National Today, this day is celebrated to raise awareness about the dying book-buying and book-reading culture.  Sadly, the U.S. adult population that read books has declined by 7% over the past decade.  And all the insanity of book burnings and books being removed libraries in 2022 is not helping matters.

Anyhoo...since I will not be getting to the mall today to buy a book, I decided to make some "tag" bookmarks instead, to be used with the books I will buy in the future.  And I love how these turned out.

I've had this set of  Slimline Tags dies in my stash for some time now and thought these would be perfect for some bookmarks.  One huge.  One small.

I started by die-cutting the two tag dies from white cardstock.  I used a 240gsm/90/100 lb cardstock.  I also printed the digital book washi tape I bought from SS Digital Studio on Etsy, onto a piece of A4 white cardstock - 180gsm/65 lb cardstock.

Next, I needed paper for the front and back of the tags.  I went thru my stash and found the perfect paper to use - Library Card P2065 by KaiserCraft.  Sadly, I do not believe it is still available so you will have to dig thru your stash to find papers that work for you and your style.

I used the same tag dies to cut the pieces for the front and back of each tag.  Because the tags are less than 4" wide, I was able to cut the fronts and backs for each tag using just one sheet of 12" x 12" paper.

Then I adhered one to each side of each tag and I distressed the edges to hide the white cardstock.

Next, I die-cut the two rectangle dies using white cardstock and I also die-cut the round pieces to go around the holes at the top of the tags.

Then I cut the strips of the book washi tape designs, distressed the sides, and adhered each of them to the front of the rectangle pieces.  I also rounded the corners and distressed the sides once all the strips were adhered.

Lastly, I adhered each of these pieces to one side of my tag bookmarks, adhered the round pieces to the holes at the top of each tag, and added a tassel to each one.

Done!  Ready to be used in a book.

Below are the fronts and backs of each of the tags for you to see.  I love how these turned out and am happy that I used a heavy weight cardstock.  I think I will be using these for years to come.  Or giving them as gifts.

I hope you enjoyed this idea for today's holiday.  And I hope you can find some time to go check out what Debra and Lori have made.  Their ideas are over on their IG pages, which are linked below.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today.  Enjoy the rest of your day and I hope you find the time to go buy a book - printed or electronic.  Until next time...

Hugs from Brasil!

Yes, It's A Holiday - National Cheese Pizza Day

Hey everyone and welcome to a new "Yes, It's A Holiday" blog post that I do with my friends Debra and Lori.  Today we are celebrating National Cheese Pizza Day and I am not complaining.  I love pizza.  I can eat it every day.  The problem here is that you can't really get pizza until after 7pm and you have to buy the whole pie.  Really hard to find a place that sells slices.  UGH!

According to National Today, National Cheese Pizza Day is celebrated annually on September 5th, and it's time for you to celebrate in cheese-pizza style.  Each year, more than 2 billion pounds of pizza cheese is produced in the U.S. alone.

To help celebrate...I made 2 cards.  I made the first one, which I liked, but I did not "love" it.  I felt the mustache paper I used on the card front disappeared.  So I made a 2nd card, which I love!

Both of the cards use the digital Pizza Party Papers and/or the digital Pizza Party Clipart from Pretty Grafik Design on Etsy.

Card No. 1

  • I used Pages on my MAC to make the background of pizza slices.  I imported one of the images and then duplicated it several times until I got the look I wanted, and then I printed it.
  • I also printed one of the paper designs - the background of mustaches.
  • Next, using 2 stitched rectangle dies, I cut the mustaches and the pizza slices.
  • I adhered the mustache background to my A2 card front.  Then I adhered the pizza slices to a piece of black cardstock, which I then adhered to my card front.
  • For my sentiments, I made them on my computer and printed them onto a piece of white cardstock.  For the front sentiment, I die-cut it using the Sentiment Banners Cover Die from Altenew, which I layered on a piece of black cardstock and then to the card front.  For the inside sentiment, I die-cut it using the stitched rectangle die, which I adhered to the inside.

Card No. 2

For this card, I basically did the same thing as for Card No. 1 but I used a piece of red cardstock for my card base.  I thought it would bring in the essence of tomato sauce, something every pizza needs.  LOL

I also love how the inside sentiment, printed on the white cardstock, pops off the red card base.

Done!

Which do you like more?  I am leaning towards the red cardstock.  Anyway, I hope you can find the time to go and check out the cards that Debra and Lori made for today's fun holiday.  Links to our Instagram pages are below...just click on our names to be taken to them.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today.  Enjoy the rest of your day and don't forget to go eat a slice of cheese pizza.
