Valentine's Day Card for a Coffee Lover | StenDoodle | Stamplorations and KCS Designs by Kim
Hello everyone. It's been forever since I made a StenDoodle design, and I have been itching to get back into playing with my stencils. Today, I made a Valentine's Day card incorporating a StenDoodle design in the coffee cup. This is the perfect card for that coffee lover in your life.
What is a "StenDoodle," you might be asking. Well, it's a technique I came up with back in June, 2013 that merges doodling with stencils. You can read about how this idea came about on THIS post on my blog. You can also search my blog for "StenDoodle" to see more of my work.
What do you need to make this card?
- For the background paper, I used the digital Brew & Blend Craft papers from KCS Designs by Kim on Etsy.
- For the coffee image, I used the Framed Coffee To Go #1 digital image from Stamplorations.
- For the StenDoodle technique, I used the Punchinella Trio stencil from Joggles.
- For color, I used my Ultra Fine Tip BIC Intensity Markers.
The main idea behind making a StenDoodle is to start with an image or stencil that has a large open area. Then you use smaller stencils to doodle inside the larger area. I liked the Framed Coffee To Go #1 image because of the open white coffee to go cup. Then, by using two of the designs on the Punchinella Trio stencil, I can make a StenDoodle.
It will all make sense by the end of this post. Trust me.
- I made a top-folding A2 card using red cardstock.
- I cut a piece of white cardstock, 4" x 5.25", and adhered it to the inside of the card.
- I printed one of the papers from the Brew and Blend Craft Papers on white cardstock.
- I die-cut a piece using a 4" x 5.25" stitched rectangle die, distressed the edges with Coffee Archival ink, adhered a piece of fun foam to the back, and then to the card front.
- I printed the Framed Coffee To Go #1 image at 100% on white cardstock, trimmed it, and adhered it to my workstation using washi tape. You can print this image larger if you want to make a larger StenDoodle.
- Using the hexagon design on the Punchinella Trio stencil, I traced the lines using a black marker, making sure to stay within the white area of the cup. If this scares you, you can use a pencil and then go back with a black marker.
- Next, using the heart design on the Punchinella Trio stencil, I traced a heart inside each of the hexagons, using a black marker.
- Then I colored in the cup using my Ultra Fine Tip BIC Intensity Markers.
- I layered the image on a piece of red cardstock, adhered a piece of fun foam to the back, and then to the center of the card.
Now...you can leave it like this and it would be a beautiful card. Or, you can kick it up a notch and add red glitter glue or Diamond Glaze inside the hearts, like I did below. I also added my Happy Valentine's Day sentiment to the inside of the card.
