Day 2 - 30 Day Coloring Challenge - Watercolor Flowers

Good morning everyone.  Yesterday was the Brasilian holiday of Finados (Day of the Dead), which is similar to other Day of the Dead celebrations, people go to cemeteries and churches with flowers and candles and offer prayers. The celebration is intended as a positive honoring of the dead.  Since there was not much to do, we went to a BBQ with some friends and relaxed.

In the morning I started a card for Day 2 of The 30 Day Coloring Challenge over at The Daily Marker. I've had these whimsical Black Eyed Susans by Art Gone Wild and they were screaming for some watercolor.  So I broke out my distress inks and a waterbrush and had some fun.

I started by stamping the image on a piece of white cardstock with Jet Black Archival Ink and then heat setting it.  Then I stamped a bit of Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade distress inks on an acrylic block and colored in the flowers with a water brush.  I started with mustard seed and then went back and blended in some spiced marmalade.

Next I used picked raspberry distress inks on the flower centers and some mowed lawn distress ink on the stems.

The last step was to color in the background with salty ocean distress inks.  I started close to the flower and then pulled the color out towards the edges with the water brush.

Once completely dry, I stamped the phrase "just because" from Mason Jar of Flowers by Stamping Bella, adhered it to a piece of cardstock in a complimentary blue/green color and then adhered this to a top folding A2 card base of white cardstock.

That's it.  Done!  I kinda like the way this came out and I think I am going to be doing some more watercoloring with distress inks very soon!  Let me know what you think!  Until next time -

Hugs from Brasil -

Michael
