Retro Rubber Card Challenge - Lime Green/Aqua Blue - Scatter Joy Card

Good morning world!!  TGIF!!  So many things going on today.....the exciting thing for me is that tonight, Wizard Cosmopolis, one of the language schools here in town (and, yes, a subsidiary of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry), is hosting a "Food Truck".  They are not as big here as in the states and it will bring a fun NYC feel here to this town - even if for just a few hours.   Then, after that, it's the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics.  I know they are getting a lot of bad press but I think every 4 years, whatever country is hosting them, get bad press.  I am not going to any of it but hope it all turns out well and that both the USA and Brasil win lots of Gold!!  And it's fun to be in the host city.

Now...for today's card...this week on the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog, their Challenge #44 is a color challenge - lime green, aqua blue, and neutral.  Let me be the first to admit that I am color challenged.  I am partially color blind in that dark colors are hard for me to tell apart...a dark navy blue and a black - ugh! After consulting my good friend Sue, and going through a box of cardstock, I think I found the correct colors.  So...let's begin.

I started with a top folding A2 card base of white cardstock.  To the front I adhered a neutral piece of decorative paper from an old paper pad I had in my stash (Kitschy Kitchen by Melissa Frances).  Then I die cut a piece of lime cardstock using the large stitched rectangle die from Bundle of Stitched Shapes by Simon Says Stamp.  After that I die cut a piece of aqua blue cardstock with the scallop die from Blueprints 1 by MFT.  I distressed the edges of them all with Vintage Photo distress ink and then layered them on the card front - neutral on the bottom, then lime green, then aqua blue.

Then I stamped the Gerbera Daisy Bunch by Sweet Stamps, had my Scan N Cut cut it out, and then I colored the flowers with a waterbrush and Susan K. Weckesser's new Color Pop Inks - "Fresh" and "Ice" by Color Box.  It was so much fun to finally use this stamp!  I bought it about 3 years ago at a stamp show but never used it until today.  And, I am happy to say, they are still selling it!!

Once they were dry, I applied some pop dots behind the flowers and adhered them to the card front.  Then using a piece of Kraft cardstock, I cut one of the vases from Vase Set DIE141-U by Impression Obsession, applied some pop dots behind this also and adhered over the bunch of flowers.

Here is a close up of the raised flowers -

The last steps were to apply a bit of Crystal Stickles in the center of each flower, I stamped the phrase "scatter joy" from Anything Can Happen by Hero Arts on a piece of Kraft cardstock and adhered it next to the flowers, and then adhered a few lime green and blue sequins around the card front.

Done!!  I have to say that I am very happy with how my card came out.  I was going to pass on this challenge but pushed myself to try.  I hope you do also.  If you want to make a card for the Retro Rubber Challenge - click HERE  to enter your card!  And please share with me.    Until next time -

Hugs from Brasil -

Michael

  1. I love this card, the flowers look great and the addition of the vase is a great idea - in fact I have a bunch of flowers stamp that I could give a whole new look to by doing something similar.

  8. Hi Michael! You did a superb job with your colors! I had to LOL at the color challenged. Both of my brothers are color blind and I love to tease them about their color choices! This card is so stunning in its gracefulness - does that sound weird? It looks graceful to me! The vase adds such texture - beautiful addition! I am watching the Olympics as I write this post - and even before I read your post I remembered you live in Brazil. Lots of excitement there! Thank you for playing along with Retro Rubber! And thank you for reminding me that I need a scan n cut!!

  13. Love this so much! I also have vision issues. I am on the DT at RR and I ask my DT members for help on my projects. Sometimes it is hard to know if they are what I am really working to create. I also ask my daughters for help with colors. I often think black is blue and vice versa. I need to use my Scan and Cut soon. You have inspired me. I love using Pop Dots also, lovely project, thanks so much for joining our challenge!❤️ Ps. So interesting to hear you speak of the Olympics near you also

    1. Hi Christine. Glad you love the card as much as I do. And am glad you understand my color pain. LOL. I hated when I used to have to wear a suit and could not tell if my socks were navy or black. Now it's just jeans and I only have navy socks. LOL Glad I played along and thanks for stopping by my blog.
