Stamp Ink Paper Challenge No. 55

Happy Tuesday!!  I hope everyone had an amazing July 4th weekend (if you are in the states).  I miss standing on the roof of my old building watching the fireworks over the NYC skyline with my neighbors! For my Independence Day we went to see ....Independence Day 2.  It was okay.  Pretty much the same movie from 20 years ago but with better effects.

There is a lot going on today.  I am here today with a card I made for the Stamp Ink Paper Challenge  No. 55, which is a sketch challenge this week. And, as I promised, the card is much easier than my last card, the Flip Flop card.  LOL

I was asked on Friday to cover for one of the designers of the SIP blog and I also got a box of goodies from my friend Sue, which included a bunch of stamps from Unity Stamp Co. (one of my favs).  I figured it was as good a time as any to break some of these babies in!

This is also the first day of the new "30 Day Coloring Challenge" on The Daily Marker blog.  You can all the info on that HERE!  Now on to today's card...

I started with an A2 top folding white cardstock card base.  Then I took a piece of MT washi tape that I had in my stash and I ran it down the right side and burnished it well.

Then I opened the card fully, placed a ruler along the left side of the tape, and cut along the left side of the washi tape. This gives two "sections" to the card front - the washi strip (5/8" wide) and the white section next to it (3 5/8" wide).

Then I put some double sided tape on the back of the washi strip and glued it down so that it adhered to what would be the inside of the card.

Then, after searching through my stacks of 6x6 paper pads, I found a sheet that went well with the washi tape (from a Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm pad by American Crafts).  I cut a piece 3 5/8" x 5 1/2", distressed the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink, and adhered it to the white section of the card front.

Next I took the 2 largest dies from the Stitched Circle Layers (30036) set by Memory Box and cut a piece of black cardstock with the largest die and a piece of white cardstock with the 2nd largest die.  Then I grabbed one of my new stamps sets - I'd Go Anywhere by Unity Stamp Co. - and stamped the bicycle and one of the phrases on the white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Then I colored it all in with some Copic markers.

Next I adhered the black circle to the card front, then opened the card fully, turned it over, and trimmed it along the edge.

Then I adhered the white circle with the bicycle image on to the black circle, turned it over, trimmed that piece also along the edge, and then distress the side again with the Vintage Photo ink.  I did adhere the white circle so that it was NOT exactly centered on the black.  I liked how that looked.

That's it.  Done!  This is how the card looks closed.

The part with the bicycle image will flip up while the strip with the washi tape will stay down.  This does give a smaller area to write on but I think it gives a great look to a cool card.  I hope you enjoyed the card and I hope you find some time to enter a card in the challenge too.

Hugs from Brasil -

  2. Love this card, Michael. The clever design of gluing the washi strip to the inside of the card and offsetting the white circle from the black one is genius. I love the bright colors for the bike and flowers. TFS
