Baby It's Cold Outside - Retro Rubber Challenge 32

Hello everyone! What a crazy morning!!  I was in the middle of preparing this blog post when I realized that Bandido had an appointment with the vet.  While at the vet, I received an email from Blogger advising me that this little ole blog of mine had been deleted due to "phishing".  WTH? After several hours of searching on Uncle Google's website, filing my "appeal" with Blogger, hitting Twitter to vent my frustration via tweets....they finally realized they screwed up big time and gave everyone back their blogs.  It is very frustrating to be at the mercy of a website with no way to contact them.  I plan on moving over to Word Press soon!

As for today's card - I made this cute 4" square note card, not just for The Daily Marker's 30 Day Color Challenge, but also to upload to a new card challenge site I found called Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.  It's different than most challenge blogs because you HAVE to use stamps that are older than a year. Since I moved here with 20 years worth of rubber stamps, this is going to be a great challenge blog for me to play with.  I will finally be forced use to those older stamps I bought and never used.  This is my first card for them and with Challenge 32 - Baby It's Cold Outside - you have to make a winter card.

I started with a white cardstock card base, 4" x 8", scored at 4" and top folding. To this I adhered a 4" square piece of designer scrapbook paper that looked like snow to the card front.  Then I took a piece of white cardstock- 3 5/8" x 3 5/8" - and made my sky by blending Broken China, Victorian Velvet, Milled Lavender, and Chipped Sapphire Distress inks.

Next I grabbed a set by Stampin Up called It's Snow Time (from 2004).  Using Memento Ink, I stamped the trees a few times and one of the snowmen, had my Scan N Cut cut them out, and then I colored them in with Copic Markers.  Then, using Versamark ink, I stamped the snowflakes and stars stamp that is also part of this set and embossed them with Bridal Embossing Tinsel by Ranger.  I also used one of the dies from the Stitched Hillside Borders by Lawn Fawn with a scrap piece of white cardstock to make the snow hill, which I then glued under the sky.

Next, I adhered the cardstock with the winter sky to a piece of dark blue cardstock - 3 3/4" x 3 3/4", which I then adhered to the card front.  Next, glued the trees to the card front.  I applied some pop dots to the tree in front to give some dimension.  Then I placed the snowman down temporarily and stamped the snowballs.

Finally, put some pop dots on the back of the snowman and adhered him to the card front.  For the snowballs and under the trees, I used a Brasilian product that makes puffy white paint.  Sort of like a Viva Decor product in the states or Europe.  After this all dried, I stamped the phrase "The chill of winter is warmed by friendship.", which is also part of this set.

Done!!  As always, I hope you enjoyed this card.  If you are tired of all the challenge blogs using new stamps and you want to use or give new life to your older stamps, I urge you to check Retro Rubber out.  If you want to enter a card of your own - and you have until February 26th - just click HERE!

Until next time...Hugs from Brasil -

Michael

This card is fabulous, so beautifully detailed and put together, my eyes go from one side to the other just taking in the awesome little Winter scene you created. I adore the "snow balls" this cute snowman is juggling, they seem to actually move!!

  4. Michael, your snowman is adorable! What a fun stamp set, which was before my Stampin' Up! addiction began so I missed out on this cutie. Your background is gorgeous! You don't say how you applied the distress inks but I am guessing that you sponged it on, right? As my fellow design team have already gushed over, those snowballs are fantastic! GREAT card and you aren't even in winter right now! LOL Thanks for playing along with us at Retro Rubber and we look forward to you joining us again soon.

    1. OMG!! Thanks so much Debbie. I am a huge fan of your work too!! Yes, I used the applicator to apply the distress inks. And, no, it is not winter here and I had to dig for some non Christmas stamps. LOL. Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today.

  5. Wonderful details, Michael! Not sure that my teammates left me anything else to address, LOL. To me, it is the detail that takes a card from good to Wow and you certainly accomplished this. I have not ventured much out of SU supplies but seeing all the stitching dies makes me feel like I should. I can only wait so long, right? And I have heard about the Scan n Cut and have been wondering if it is worth the investment...

    1. Thanks so much Katy. I cannot believe the comments you guys leave. LOL. The SNC is worth it - especially if you have older stamps for which dies were never made for. Glad I found you guys too. Thanks for stopping by the blog today! Appreciate it.

  8. One of my favorite sets and you used it wonderfully here! I love the sky you created and like everyone else mentioned, the snowballs are a terrific touch!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment on my blog! As for the no snow in my part of Alaska...warm pacific waters, high ridges of pressure and an apparently very fickle Mother Nature combine to make a very warm and dry winter, unfortunately!
